To celebrate the 20th anniversary of his incredible career, WWE declared June to be “John Cena Month“. Luckily during the celebration of his 20 years in WWE, which has led him to 16 world championships and Hall of Fame career, John Cena is returning to WWE just in time for a match at the next WWE PPV, Money in the Bank.
WWE and John Cena have announced that “The Champ” will return to WWE on the June 27 episode of Monday Night Raw, live from Laredo, Texas. Cena has not been seen since Summerslam 2021 where he faced Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship and it will be a welcome return for one of the all time greats.
WWE tweeted about his return after Raw while Cena retweeted it and commented “Been far too long and what a special occasion to be able spend with the @WWEUniverse!”
His return will be on the Raw before Money in the Bank, which could mean that a big match could be set for John Cena at Money in the Bank. Cena previously teased a rematch with Kevin Owens on Instagram, and with Owens done in his feud with Ezekial he could be the next big name to try and take down “The Champ”.
Another option for John Cena’s return could be a spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match. He is a previous Mr Money in the Bank, winning the contract at the 2012 edition of the pay per view. He later cashed in his contract on WWE Champion CM Punk but was unsuccessful in regaining the title.
He could also be challenging a champion in a main event match. While he already faced Roman Reigns last year and lost, a match against Intercontinental Champion Ricochet could be on the cards. The title is the only one that has eluded Cena in his career and he would finally become a Grand Slam Champion with a victory.
A match with US Champion Theory has also been teased. Both men have talked up a potential match between the two, and it could be a passing-of-the-torch moment for an again Cena and an up and coming Theory.
However, there will not be much time to build up a match with John Cena only returning one week before Money in the Bank, so it may be best to just stick him in the ladder match and help build up a match against Theory for Summerslam 2022.
